Peralta finance chief resigns post

Ron Gerhard's first day at CCSF will be Oct. 21.

Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration Ronald Gerhard announced his resignation at the September 24 Peralta Board of Trustees meeting. Gerhard said his resignation was the result of an employment offer from City College of San Francisco (CCSF), and that he had not been actively seeking a new position. “I wasn’t looking. I was approached and asked if I was interested in the position…I enjoy working at Peralta.” The Peralta Board of Trustees will meet to decide who Gerhard’s temporary replacement will be. Culinary Arts student awarded $5,000 scholarship

A Laney College culinary student has been awarded an amazing opportunity in the form of a $5,000 transfer scholarship. Shana Waqia was awarded the scholarship on Aug. 15 by the Golden Gate Restaurant Association Scholarship Foundation (GGRASF). She is one of the several students who receive a scholarship from the GGRASF each year.

Radio station may add FM

Campus station registering for local broadcast license Laney College’s 9th Floor Radio may be riding the FM airwaves by the end of the year, thanks to a new FCC bill that allows small-radius radio stations to apply for a broadcasting license. The bill is named the Local Community Radio Act (LCRA), and it allows the FCC to license new local stations across the country. The licensees are called Low Power FM stations (LPFMs). An LPFM is a noncommercial radio station which operates at 100 watts of power or less, with a relative radio tower height limit of 30 meters or shorter.
